Please do not contact us to select a topic for an article you wish to write. We do not select topics for writers. It is a writers job to select the topics they write about. However, Unless you specifically target our Idaho audience you will not be published on our site.
Please note: Only well-written articles will be published and if they do not follow these guidelines we will not even respond to your email.
We will not publish backlinks that are not appropriate for a family website.
Idaho Outdoors is an online publication focused on entertaining, educating, and informing dedicated Idaho outdoorsmen and women. Our particular focus is on all outdoor activities in Idaho. If you are interested in contributing to our website. Please read through these writer guidelines to see how you might fit into our family.
Feature stories
Feature Stories should be about your trip to Idaho, things you like to do in Idaho, or your experiences in Idaho. If we believe your article is fictional, not original content or not specifically written about something you experience in Idaho. WE WILL NOT PUBLISH YOUR ARTICLE.
Please include the requested associated imagery with each article submission or again we will not publish your article.
Feature stories should cover a given topic, experience, or event in-depth. These feature articles should be 750 to 1,500 words long. They should be accompanied by two to three images without copyright or produced by the author. Or an image for which the author has explicit permission to use in association with their content. If you have images that you have permission to use we will need copyright information for the images to include in the article. The article topic, experience, or event needs to target Idaho Outdoor Recreation audiences.
How-to Articles
How-to guides contributed from writers are welcome. These articles should be focused on a single topic that explains how they can improve their Idaho Outdoors experience. The how-to articles main objective is to improve a reader’s ability with regard to that topic. These articles should be 500 to 1,000 words long. They should also be accompanied by two to three images produced by the author. Or for which the author has explicit permission to use in association with their content.
Product Reviews
Idaho Outdoors product review articles should objectively examine a given product on its features. It should also evaluate the usability of the product for the outdoorsmen/women the article intended for. Please include firsthand in-the-field use in your review. Common topics of investigation include the value for price, reliability, and quality. Though these topics may vary from product to product. Product reviews should be 500 to 1,000 words in length. Product reviews should be accompanied by at least one image produced by the author. Or an image for which the author has explicit permission to use in association with their content.

Standards and Values
Please note: We do not just publish articles until they go through editorial review. Articles are then checked for facts and compared against sources if they can be found. They are also checked for originality. If the article passes our editorial review only then will it be published!
Idaho Outdoors holds its writers to high standards of accuracy and integrity. To that end, we will always openly cite and link to, when possible sources of information. We will always publicly acknowledge corrections to factual errors in the article text.
Please provide articles that are well written. If articles are not well-written we reserve the right to reject any article at any time. We strive to produce content that is written from an authentic pro-sportsman perspective, yet is still objective. Please keep in mind fair chase rules, good sportsmanship, and other ethical conduct.
